Lynda Bryans
Lynda Bryans is probably Northern Ireland’s best known female television and radio presenter. She began her broadcasting career on local news at the BBC in Belfast before being snapped up in the mid 1990’s by London producers after she came top of a poll of the most popular regional faces in the UK. Lynda was chosen to front a ground-breaking prime time news and current affairs show, “Here and Now”, on the BBC Network and later that year co-presented with Rolf Harris, the first ever ‘Animal Hospital’ – a week of live 3-times daily shows on BBC-1. However, when the programme became a weekly series, Lynda was back at home in Northern Ireland giving birth to the first of her two sons.
Lynda has also reported for ‘The Holiday Programme’ and more recently has been working on the ITV Network co-presenting (along with her TV presenter husband, Michael Nesbitt) the popular ‘Sunday Morning’ show and many TV specials marking anniversaries and events, among them the Millennium, the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the first Christmas in New York after the destruction of the twin towers and two other programmes for the ITV Network, documenting the birth and death of Jesus Christ.
Lynda Bryans co-presents UTV Live, (Ulster Television) with her husband Michael and the couple also front UTV’s popular property series, ‘Home Sweet Home’. They are known as Northern Ireland’s ‘Richard and Judy’. Lynda has a daily ‘lifestyle’ show on Belfast’s newest radio station, U105, and presented regularly on the ITV News Channel, until its closure at the end of 2005. One of her greatest TV skills has to be her calm, cool approach to any situation – unflappable when things are going wrong – which makes her one of the best live presenters around; and also her amazing Irish warmth which puts her guests at ease.
Lynda has recently completed the first stage on the road to be a life coach, but needs a few ‘guinea pig’ clients on which to practice her new skill. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two sons, PJ and Christopher – especially bouncing on the trampoline! She plays bad golf but cooks well. Then there’s the vegetable garden, the 15 laying chickens, the wormery and Henry the peacock to look after too.
